The Wall That Almost Stumped Me!

My mouth must have hung open in surprise when the collectors asked me point blank if I could do it

It was the opening night of the Art Show. It had taken an entire week to construct the studio where I would be spending the next 3 months. I had literally just hung the last painting on the wall, did a quick change in the car into a little black dress, slapped on some red lipstick, and was back in the studio just as the first collectors walked in.

Find out WHERE they wanted to hang their art in this week's Collector Spotlight.

See you over there,

Jen

Oregon’s Wine Country!

On our way home from Vancouver BC, we stopped by Ardiri Winery to visit one of our favorite collectors, John Compagno. Over the years he's collected upwards of 50 paintings, and has even used my artwork for several of his wine labels. His vineyard is spectacular with views of the Willamette Valley and Mt. Hood on a clear day.

John gave us the tour and shared the background behind the wine making process, which is more science than one would expect. Fascinating even for non-drinkers like us!

Check Ardiri out if you're in the Portland area and want to spend the day in Oregon's wine country!🧑🧑🧑

Installation in Vancouver!

These collectors drove down from Vancouver to my studio in Southern Oregon to meet me in person and commission a painting! Last night I returned the favor and drove the painting up to Canada to install it in their home.

Nothing beats the look on their faces when they saw the painting hanging up on the wall that had been bare for 3 years! Jill's comment afterwards was so beautiful:

"It's amazing. It suits the house and it suits us. This place is meaningful to us. But having that view and we felt such a great connection with you. It multi layers the meaning of this painting for us because it's not only a painting of a place that we love to be at but also having the connection with you gives it a deeper meaning. It isn't just a picture that we saw and bought. I'm so glad we came down to your studio and connected with you and saw your work and we just like you so much and it's such a special piece for us to have. And not only that it's a place we love but knowing that it was painted by someone we feel so connected to."

40x80 Fall Aspen Commission Completed for Canadian Couple!

Ahhhhhh. Take a moment and breathe in the fresh Autumn air! This is one of my favorite times of year...and painting Fall is always a delight. πŸπŸ‚

This 40x80 Fall painting was commissioned by a lovely couple from Vancouver, BC. They drove down from Canada to visit my studio in Southern Oregon, and to discuss their special commission. It was so fun getting to know them! By the time they left, we had the details all worked out. This piece will be the focal point of the room, so they wanted it to be perfect. They also wanted it to be really special, so they gave me photos of their cabin and lake to incorporate into their piece. Also, amidst the Aspens on their lake, are evergreens — so I added that to their painting as well.

And I just heard back from them: Painting approved! 🧑🧑🧑

If you've been thinking about commissioning a piece, I have just 2 spots left in my schedule.

Art Runs in the Family!

Meet my Uncle Eric. He's an artist too. Actually, I have 3 uncles and 1 aunt who are artists—all from my Mom's side of the family. Out of 6 children, 4 of them are artists! What are the odds? My Mom felt like she didn't get the gift, but she passed it down to her daughter! πŸ‘©‍❤️‍πŸ‘©

Do any of you have any artists in the family?πŸ‘©‍🎨

Growing up with all of those artists, my Mom easily recognized the signs in me by the time I was barely out of diapers!

You can always tell who those budding artists are...the kids who can sit for hours drawing and doodling, unaware of the passing time. 🎨

Yep, that was always me...especially in math class! Lol.

So when my Mom, my Aunt Chris and I planned a trip to Maui, we knew a hopper flight to the Big Island to visit Uncle Eric was a must! He'd lived on the island for 30 years, and we had never visited him. I think in my entire life I had only met him once?

And I'm so glad we made the trip! Our time together became the highlight of the entire week! I loved seeing him in his element—an art studio in the middle of the jungle! 🌴🌴🌴

He does a bit of everything—from watercolor on canvas, miniature ship building, to tinting gourds with alchemical dyes. It was so fascinating to watch him in action! 🀹🏼‍♂️

I guess art does run in the family! What's your story?

Pop of Color—Big Aspen Art!

So fun meeting James and Lily at the Sausalito Art Festival this past weekend!

When they saw my 72x24 "Joyful Fall," they knew it was perfect for the wall at the top of their stairs.

It brought that pop of color they were looking for!

After the show, I brought the painting over and hung it for them. They loved it there! Brought so much color and pizazz to the wall!

James had the best quote: "I can't wait to wake up tomorrow morning and see this painting on the wall."

The Collector Who Inspired Me To Paint The 4 Seasons! 🌿🍁❄️🌷

This is a Collector Spotlight that I've been dying to share!!

Let me tell you a story....

The 4 Seasons concept started with an email from a soon-to-be collector, Jon Stowe...

He had bought a lake home a couple of years before, and had spent months remodeling it. There was a long wall in the formal dining room where 4 mirrors had previously hung, so it was divided up into 4 sections.

He thought it would be perfect to hang 4 pieces of art, each showing one of the seasons. It would make the divided wall look intentional, and bring it all together!

Jon Googled "Aspen Tree Art" and guess who popped up?!

He sent me an email, seeing if I had any prints available.

Now, I have always enjoyed painting the different seasons…. and I loved the concept! However, I didn't have FOUR of the Seasons available in GiclΓ©e Prints...

I was just about to email him back the bad news, but right before I pressed SEND, I decided to take one last look through my GiclΓ©es...

(I have over 150 GiclΓ©es in my catalog, so it took more than a few minutes!)

I was delighted to discover that I had painted a certain scene THREE times, in each of the different seasons, with nearly the same exact tree formations. This landscape came from my own imagination, and by SHEER INSPIRATIONI had created it in a Spring, Summer and Fall! The only one missing was Winter. I couldn't believe it!

I wrote Jon back, explaining that YES, I could give him the 4 seasons, but I would just have to paint an original of Winter first…(more on that later. That is a story in itself!)

He was thrilled!

Jon ordered the new 4 Seasons GiclΓ©es, and after hanging them in his formal dining room, he sent me some photos of the room with this note…

"Jen, Attached is a photo of our lake home dining room with your magnificent paintings. They have added a real WOW factor to the room and everyone who has seen them is impressed with both the paintings and the story behind them. Thank you so much!"
 Jon S.

His dining room turned out so cool! I was thrilled with how it worked out (See Photos Here)! And now, I have 4 Seasons that I can offer to YOU!

What's your favorite season??? Why choose, when you can have ALL FOUR!

XOXO

Jen

PS - I might be crazy, but For a Limited Time I'm Giving you 3 Seasons for FREE! I'm not sure how long I'll be able to do this…but for right now, you can Get THREE Seasons absolutely FREEwhen you buy just one!!! Check out the offer at: http://www.4seasons.jensart.com

My GiclΓ©e Prices Going Up!

⬆️ Prices are going up on all my GiclΓ©es June 15th!

If you're an art collector, this is great news! (Please click on the link below to receive your FREE updated Certificate of Value!) ❤️

https://collectors.jensart.com/updated-cov-prints

But first, can I tell you a quick story?

I was lucky enough to land a big client—the CEO of La-Z-Boy, and was working with her team of designers in Sacramento, CA. They needed a lot of artwork for the homes they were designing for their annual Parade of Homes Showcase. They needed art, but more than I could produce...and they needed it quickly! The Parade of Homes Showcase was only 3 weeks away!

I'd vaguely heard about Limited Edition Art Prints and then sometimes people would use a strange word connected to it, that sounded fancy and very French. "Gly-see?" I wasn't really sure....

I opened up the phone book (remember those?) and searched the yellow pages under "Printer," and dialed the first number I came to.

A man answered and I asked if he could make me "Gickley's." He had no idea what I was asking for. He thought I was talking about gum?!!

I tried rephrasing my question, "Can you make me…you know…one of those reproduction thingies of my painting?"

The lightbulb turned on! "Oh you mean a GiclΓ©e (Zhee-clay)? Yes! I can do that. Just bring me in the original painting, I'll need to scan it in order to make you a print."

So, I brought in my painting. But, turns out my paintings aren't that easy to "capture."

I tried 5 local Printers. No dice....

They'd take one look at my painting and invariably tell me…"your texture is too thick--impossible to photograph. There'll be too much shine."

And every one of them said, "Your paintings are way too BIG! We can't scan anything over a 24x24. There's just no way we can make a GiclΓ©e of your work."

I realized that Southern Oregon was just too small a town. I needed to broaden my horizons. I put my Giclee aspirations on hold for the moment and left for an art show in NYC.

It was at that NY Art Show when Squirt Printing from Sunnyvale, CA handed me a big 5"x5" square business card made out of canvas. It was so cool! Their business cards were literally cut swaths of printed canvas showing texture. The image was dynamite. The colors so vivid. I knew I wanted them to create my GiclΓ©es.

15 years later, Squirt Printing is still the company I use today. They are now relocated in Bend, Oregon, and they do an incredible job. My GiclΓ©es truly are BEST in the business!

Not all my paintings are available as Giclees. I have to pick and choose only my very favorites! It requires that I ship the actual original painting to Bend Oregon, so I have to be extremely picky.

"The paintings that are hardest to part with.... the ones that are just a little more special.... become my GiclΓ©es"

Over the past 15 years, many of you have collected my GiclΓ©es.

And I have some great news to share:

Due to crazy demand, prices are going UP on all GiclΓ©es June 15th!

Why is that good news for YOU?

If you've collected my GiclΓ©es in the past, it's time to upgrade your FREE Certificate of Value to reflect the new price!

Yes! I will mail you a new updated Certificate of Value.

πŸ‘πŸ½ Congrats on being art savvy in choosing to decorate your walls with my artwork!! πŸ’

Rocky Mountain Art!

Finishing up a couple of new paintings from my Rocky Mountain series! (I like to hook the canvases together to paint them at the same time!)

When a gallery or collector ask me for a painting from my Rocky Mountain series...that means they want the scene to be white aspens with evergreens in the background...bright yellow leaves and crimson red below. πŸ’›❤️
